1.Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): Cialis and nitrates both lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a significant and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, fainting, or even heart attack or stroke. It is contraindicated to use Cialis with nitrates or recreational "poppers" (amyl nitrites).
2.Alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin): Both Cialis and alpha-blockers relax blood vessels, which can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction when used together. This may result in dizziness, fainting, or orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing). If needed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend spacing the medications.
3.Other antihypertensive drugs (e.g., atenolol, propranolol, enalapril, lisinopril): Cialis can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of these medications. While this interaction is usually less severe than with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it can still cause dizziness or fainting in sensitive individuals. Close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.
Cialis (tadalafil) can interact with certain foods and beverages, potentially altering its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Here are the key drug-food interactions to be aware of:
If Cialis (tadalafil) is used with a type 2 diabetes medication, it is associated with an increased risk of heart-related side effects. If Cialis (tadalafil) is used with a type 2 diabetes medication, it is associated with a lower blood pressure level.

A recent study published in the Japanese Medical Journal (JMMJ) suggests that a new drug called tadalafil, approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), can boost the blood flow to the genitals in people who have been prescribed Cialis.
The drug, which can treat erectile dysfunction, helps the body restore sexual function in people who suffer from impotence.
Researchers at Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (JMWW) have found that the drug, dubbed Tadalafil, helps men improve their sexual performance by improving the flow of blood to the genitals.
The drug's ability to boost blood flow to the genitals is a major advance in the field of sexual health in Japan, according to the research.
"Tadalafil, the active ingredient of Cialis, is now one of the most successful treatments for erectile dysfunction and is considered the first-line treatment for patients with this condition," said Dr. Yuka Uchiyama, a professor of medicine at JMWW.
In a separate study, researchers at Tokyo Medical and Dental College in Japan have shown that the drug is also effective in boosting blood flow to the genitals.
"Tadalafil improves the response to sexual stimulation in many patients with erectile dysfunction, and also in people who suffer from other disorders of the body such as benign prostatic hyperplasia," said Dr. Yuka Uchiyama.
"This is a first-line treatment for erectile dysfunction. However, it is important to note that it does not address the root cause of erectile dysfunction, such as diabetes, obesity, or other hormonal imbalances. Tadalafil has shown promise in boosting blood flow to the genitals and is a potential treatment for erectile dysfunction and benign prostatic hyperplasia in men."
Tadalafil is available in generic, low-dose capsules that are manufactured by Eli Lilly and are available at a much lower price point.
Tadalafil is not a controlled substance and cannot be taken by everyone, according to the research. But it can be taken by some men who have been taking nitrates (medications for chest pain) or alpha-blockers (medications for chest pain).
The drug is also known as Viagra, a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. It works by increasing blood flow to the penis, which helps men with impotence achieve an erection.
The research was carried out in the laboratory of Dr. Yuka Uchiyama, professor of medicine at JMWW and the director of the JMWW Sexual Medicine Research Center.
In the study, more than 100 men with erectile dysfunction, both in Japan and the United States, were randomly assigned to receive either the drug tadalafil (tadalafil tablets, about 2.5 milligrams, taken daily for five days) or a placebo for three months. The three groups received a standard care diet, exercise, dietary and weight loss, and were followed up for five years.
After the study, the patients had a health check-up, which was done in a hospital clinic or an outpatient clinic. The men who were still taking the drugs were asked to return for a physical examination and check-ups.
After the study was completed, the participants in the tadalafil group also were asked to continue using the drugs for three months and return for a follow-up visit.
The tadalafil group had a higher rate of improvement than the placebo group (23% vs. 14%).
In addition, the patients in the tadalafil group also had more positive erections after taking the drug, compared with the placebo group.
Dr. Yuka Uchiyama said that the drug was not associated with side effects of sexual dysfunction.
"The results suggest that tadalafil can help men with erectile dysfunction to have better sexual performance and achieve and maintain an erection.
Whether you can take Tadalafil at the same time as your other medications will depend on which medications you are taking.
You are required to complete a short medical consultation questionnaire that asks for any medications that you are prescribed from your GP and will indicate the medications that can’t be taken alongside Tadalafil.
There are several medicines which should not be taken concurrently with Tadalafil. Medicines which can have potentially serious interactions with Tadalafil include :-
• Any alpha-blocker medicines e.g. doxazosin (Cardura), alfuzosin (Xatral), tamsulosin, terazosin, or Flomax, that you can buy in the pharmacy. (These medicines may be used to treat prostate problems or high blood pressure).
• Isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate, or use a GTN spray or tablets
for chest pain or use Rectogesic ointment?
• Nicorandil (Ikorel), used to treat angina
• Cimetidine, used to treat stomach or duodenal (peptic) ulcers
• Theophylline, used to treat asthma
• Antibiotics:- Clarithromycin, Erythromycin and Telithromycin
• Anti-fungals such as itraconazole and ketoconazole
• Seizure medication:- carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin and primidone
• Heart or blood pressure medication:- disopyramide, amiodarone, quinidine and procainamide
• Anti-viral medication:- telaprevir, atazanavir, retonavir, indinavir, saquinavir and cobicistat
• Recreational drugs:- amyl nitrate (poppers)
If you are taking any prescribed medication from your GP then you can simply write those in the “Is there any other medical information that you think our doctor should know?” section on the medical questionnaire. Then, our doctor will know whether the Tadalafil is safe for you to take.
